The 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates have started the season out on a very good note, winning the opening series 2-1 against the Chicago Cubs. Sure there are 159 games left and countless more road trips ahead, but there is nothing stopping us from savoring the first road series win of the season. For the Pirates, this is something noteworthy. Last year it seemed they couldn't win a road series to save their lives.
This opening series win is noteworthy for a few other reasons too.
Reason 1: The Pirates had a come from behind victory in the series finally. Reason 2: They were able to rebound from sloppy defensive plays and secure the victory in Game 1 and Game 2.
Take what you want from the opening series, there was a ton of good to build on and there was alway a few of those Pirate moments we have come to expect. Even though there is a lot of baseball left I am hoping the Pirates can build upon the good and maybe just maybe put together that all elusive winning season.
This is will be interesting to see if the Pirates can stay consistant. They played an average opponent and came out with a couple wins, but over the long haul the Pirates have proved that they are not a winning organization. They have faked the fans with hot starts before, this year wont be any different.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe the Pirates will stay consistent. I really hope they do, but management didn't go out and get talent like they promised. We got a couple players, but the way in which the organization talked you think we could've picked up a little more, it's not like we have a large payroll anyway.
ReplyDeleteAs a faithful fan, I really hope this lasts. I mean, all of last year the Pirates only had 4 road series victories, and they started this year with back to back ones. Hopefully this a sign of good things to come, but I highly doubt they can keep this up for the full season.
